MENTORS ~
I saw the highlighted part at the top of this page about highlighting homework we've checked. I've looked at a few homework assignments. Should I be highlighting the ones I've looked at? I haven't seen that done yet in the high school log. Is there a color code for the weeks yet?
Thanks!

On the Level-Librarian page, I've started indicating the pages that have received my final comments by filling in the Week 1 Homework cell with a green background (green means go ... as in the student has completed the work and can go ahead to the next week). That will give me a quick visual cue about which campers still need to upload/finish homework and/or receive feedback. Plus, at the end of camp, it will be easy to identify those who have earned camp-completion credit by looking for the campers with four straight weeks of green. Take a look at that page for a better explanation and to see what it looks like.
By applying the color to the camper's weekly homework cell, rather than to the camper's name, there's really no need to change colors from week to week.

When you're asked for a username, just chose a name that you want to be recognized by on the forum. You have to create a username to post :)

Librarian mentors ... thanks for taking the lead in creating a structure for homework review. I used your structure for the College-level campers.

Mentors ... how are you able to search the forum for postings? In assessing week one's assignments, we need to check postings. A camper's name in the forum may not be the same as in the wiki. When I tried the search box, I get an error message. Is there a way to see all participants' profiles in the forum? I noticed that the forum profile lists all the messages a participant has posted, but if you can't locate the profile, then it makes this task difficult. Thanks ...
Martha Hickson said

Call me lame, but I'm taking the easy way out on the forum postings, and giving my librarian campers a pass on that. In addition to the major "identity problem" that you pointed out, Patricia, there have been significant issues with the operability of the forum. Further, the essence of the week's assignment seems to be a camper's ability to operate successfully within our camp wiki and to analyze other wikis, not whether a camper can navigate the discussion board.
If we come up with an easy way to locate campers on the discussion board, though, I'll double-back and check for that. But in the interest of moving forward with the greater-than-anticipated workload of being a mentor, I simply made the "executive decision" described above.
Patricia Delich said
at 9:19 am on Jun 25, 2009
Thanks Martha. I don't think you're being lame, just realistic. We can only do what we can do with the tools given. I'm going to follow your lead and indicate that we can't assess the postings due to the inability to find a list of each camper's postings (this list is located on their profile.). Not sure how useful it is to double back and comment on past weeks' postings but if we can easily access campers' profiles in the future, then I will incorporate that feedback.
And I agree with you ... the essence of this week's assignment is for campers to be able to create their own page and analyze other wikis.

I agree with both of you. It's to their benefit to share ideas and see what others are up to, but it's too hard (and let's face it, time consuming) to look for those posts on the Forum.
Shayne Train said

I've created two pages:
SiteMap - which gives as many pages on this wiki as I can find (I'll add resources) in a logical order. Too many campers were complaining about navigation.
Week One Ideas - when going through homework, I started seeing some good ideas and thought it might be a good idea to save them. This page is linked off SiteMap right now. Please feel free to edit/correct both pages!

Shayne,
Thank you so much for doing this! I can only imagine how much time it took you. Here's my question: Will we continue to have access to this wiki after the summer camp ends, or should I start printing all of this information for a notebook? (How 20th century!)
I can't stand the thought of losing all this wonderful knowledge!
Thanks again!

Help! I think I've done my homework and I think I left a note on Carolyn Harper's page to ask if she would check it, but I'm not really sure about any of this! Would someone please check Cindy Grade 3 and let me know if I'm done? I read somewhere on the many pages I've been reading that a comma was not suppose to be put in our page name. I placed a comma because of the example on the instructions. I would also appreciate someone telling me where I go to find answers to questions that I leave here or on the discussion board. Thanks! Is there any way to track all the posts made by one person?
V.
Patricia Delich said
at 6:34 am on Jun 27, 2009
Hi Vivian, The only way I know of is to go to the forum and click on a person's profile. I have not seen the ability to browse all profiles or to search for one so the only way to see a person's profile is to find a posting made by that person and click on their user name. That takes you to their profile that lists on all posts made by that person. For example, here is my profile: http://educatorforum.pbworks.com/patriciadelich/blog
Hope that helps.

As a mentor, I still have only writer privileges. So who do I send people to who need editor help? And how do I contact them EASILY so they can help the camper? Thanks, Sheri

Hi Sheri,
I just read your comment. I think it's a mistake that you only have writer privileges. I believe all mentors have editor privileges. I suggest you write Kristine and ask her to fix your status. Until you get it fixed, you can send people to me or to other mentors.
Good luck,

Thanks so much,

Hi Mentors,
I thought when I initially created my homework folders 1 and 2 I put them in the homework folders, but they are in the middle school camper folder somehow. I just realized this and hope that I still got graded for my first assignment. I had it done on time and linked from the roster, but apparently it was in the wrong folder. I figured out how to make sure 3 and 4 are correct now, but I just wanted to make sure I was okay with 1 and 2. Thanks in advance for your help. They are named Jeannie K - Homework Week 1 and Week 2.

Me? Are you talking about the Conversation Prism tbyresources.pbworks.com? Right under the graphic I have a link to the original which I believe is on flickr. If you mean tbycomputers.pbworks.com, the main graphic on the Front Page was done in Wordle and the sidebar graphics are cited on a Sources page (asterisk at the bottom of the sidebar). I hope you meant me... otherwise, embarrassment. :-0

I looked at the history page and somebody accidentally deleted your row -- don't know how that happened. Sigh. I remember very well coloring your cell green and moving your name back to the first page. I don't want to revert because other people will lose their pages so maybe we can just add you back the old fashioned way!

I posted a qustion on the FAQ and the response said I should contact one of you with my problem. I could not get access to any summer camp pages over the weekend. It started sometime Friday evening and lasted until the wee hours of Monday morning--I just kept getting a "cannot connect". This happened from both my desktop and my laptop so I thought maybe there were server problems. But then I started getting notifications in my email that other campers were posting changes!! So I don't know what happened. The FAQ suggested if it happens again to try another browser which I will do if it occurs again. But in the meantime, I submitted my homework very very early this morning (Monday morning). Can it still be checked? Thank you for your help!!!! And I hope this is the right place to post this!

Hi Carol! I checked your page (I had to figure out which level you were in) and it looks good. I'm waiting for whomever is editing the page to finish - it's been quite a while and I may have to steal the lock :-( I hate to do that, the sometimes people forget to finish up and save the page.

Hey Mentors!! when do we tell who about what wiki page we currently have that we would like to have upgraded? I currently have two - one's last year's website, and another is for next year because I'm getting married (so I changed the name of the site) -- Thanks!
Martha Hickson said

If you successfully complete the Summer Camp, Kristine will send you an e-mail message inviting you to upgrade the wiki of your choosing. The upgrade instructions will be in the e-mail, and you will perform the upgrade yourself (i.e., you don't need to notify anybody).

Hi Mentors- I have a pass tag on Homework 1 and 3 but not week 2. Could someone check and let me know if I did something wrong or need to fix something. I'm not sure which comment came from a mentor but all seemed good and my week 2 is green, so I don't understand and I don't want it to keep me from finishing the camp. Thanks for the help.
Martha Hickson said

Middle School mentors, can you double-check this?
If the middle school mentors are managing their grading in the same way that several other mentor groups are (e.g., librarians), the cells on the roster for homework that is completed and approved are filled with green. All of your homework cells so far are green, suggesting that everything is fine. Perhaps you should contact an ACTIVE middle school mentor directly (via the Comments area on his/her Bio page) to confirm this.

Hi Kristine,
I already posted a discussion on the Discussion Board but did not get an answer. I a;lso posted this on the FAQ, but I was not sure if that was the correct location. So ... here they are again:
I see 800 students each year for at least one research project each ( many have 2 or 3) with about 120 students per team cycle for each research project. I am not sure if I can add a new set 120 students each session and still stay "more or less" within my 100 user limit. Question: Can I delete students each time and start fresh to add 120 more each time?
It might not be practical to do this, so I might have to limit the student editors to special projects, exploratory groups, or special education classes where the numbers are way smaller.
Question: Are there user limits on a public web where only invited guests are included?
Thanks!
Shayne Train said
at 5:50 am on Jul 17, 2009
Donna, I think you can probably delete users and add new ones. I also answered you, to the best of my knowledge, on the FAQ page. If you have a public wiki then you don't have to add everyone as a user, particularly if the main reason for your wiki is to provide information.
You don't have permission to comment on this page.
